Euro Stoxx Reclaims 6,100 as Nasdaq Futures Rebound and Brent Loses Breakout

European equities and US index futures reversed part of their morning sell-off. Euro Stoxx 50 reclaimed 6,100, DAX returned above 25,400, and Nasdaq 100 futures recovered 29,500 after stopping just above 29,392 support. At the same time, Brent crude fell back below the broken $111.97 level and the indicative VIX eased from 18.56 to around 18.12.

This reverses several signals in our previous Europe and Nasdaq update. The recovery is meaningful because it occurred across European indices, US futures, volatility and oil. Bitcoin remains below $82,000, however, so the rebound is not yet universal.

Live snapshot: Indicative prices sampled between 10:47 and 11:02 UTC on 22 October 2026 (11:47–12:02 UK time; 16:47–17:02 Bangladesh time). European indices were live cash prices; US indices, oil and gold were futures; Bitcoin was live cryptocurrency data. Quotes may be delayed and can change rapidly.

Euro Stoxx 50 rejects the break below 6,100

Euro Stoxx 50 traded near 6,121, down approximately 1.39% from the 6,207.52 previous close but almost 28 points above the prior-hour level near 6,093. The index has reclaimed both 6,100 and the 6,117 first recovery level.

This is a failed intraday break, although it is not yet a full bullish reversal. The next recovery zone is 6,145–6,160. Holding above 6,100 keeps the rebound intact; a move back below 6,093 would warn that the recovery is failing, while 6,070 remains the stronger downside reference.

DAX, CAC and FTSE recover from their lows

Germany's DAX traded near 25,444, down approximately 0.78%, after being close to 25,338 one hour earlier. The index recovered 25,390 and is approaching the next 25,500 test.

France's CAC 40 was near 7,829, down about 1.17%, recovering above the earlier 7,795 low and 7,825 first recovery level. FTSE 100 traded near 10,710, down about 0.40%, after holding the 10,680 support area.

The coordinated recovery reduces the immediate risk of another European leg lower. Stronger confirmation requires DAX above 25,500, CAC above 7,850 and FTSE above 10,733. Failure below the reclaimed levels would restore the bearish setup.

Nasdaq futures defend 29,392 and reclaim 29,500

Nasdaq 100 futures reached approximately 29,417, only 25 points above the 29,392 daily support, before recovering to around 29,512. The contract remained about 1.65% below the 30,007 reference, but the support response is the first clear intraday rebound since the European open.

S&P 500 futures recovered to approximately 7,724, down about 0.98%, while Dow futures were near 52,709, down about 0.66%. Technology remained the weakest major exposure, although the performance gap narrowed.

The indicative VIX eased to about 18.12 from 18.56, reducing the immediate volatility signal. Nasdaq futures need to reclaim 29,583, followed by 29,675, for stronger confirmation. A renewed break below 29,500 would put 29,417 and 29,392 back in focus.

Brent falls below $111.97

December Brent futures retreated from an observed high near $112.68 to around $111.80. The contract remained about 2.74% above the $108.82 reference, but it no longer held above the $111.97 breakout level.

December WTI fell from its $100.09 high to about $99.24, still up roughly 2.15%. The retreat in both benchmarks reduces the immediate inflation-pressure signal that accompanied Europe's earlier decline.

Brent needs to recover $111.97–$112.00 to reactivate the breakout. A move below $111.50 would expose the $110.59 session low. WTI needs to regain $99.55 before another $100 test; below $99.00, the earlier rejection becomes more significant.

The Associated Press has reported that oil has recently swung through a wide range amid uncertainty over energy flows during the Iran conflict. That context explains the headline sensitivity, but the current reversal can also reflect profit-taking after an extended move.

Bitcoin remains the weak link

Bitcoin traded near $81,890, down approximately 2.54% from the $84,024 reference. It had recovered from an observed low near $81,550, but remained below $82,000.

The failure to follow European equities and Nasdaq futures higher is a clear divergence. Bitcoin needs to reclaim $82,000, followed by $82,366, to join the broader stabilisation. A break below $81,500 would expose $80,800–$81,000.

Gold futures traded near $4,099 per troy ounce, down about 1.23%. Gold also remained just below $4,100, leaving $4,082 as support and $4,119–$4,123 as the recovery zone.

Scenarios into the US open

1. Failed breaks become a broader rebound

This scenario strengthens if Euro Stoxx 50 holds above 6,117, DAX clears 25,500 and Nasdaq futures recover 29,583. Brent staying below $111.97 and VIX below 18 would add confirmation.

Invalidation: Euro Stoxx below 6,093, Nasdaq futures below 29,417 and VIX back above 18.6.

2. The rebound stalls before the US open

European indices may fail at their next resistance while Nasdaq futures lose 29,500. Bitcoin remaining below $82,000 would support this scenario.

Invalidation: Nasdaq futures above 29,583, DAX above 25,500 and Bitcoin above $82,366.

3. Equities stabilise while oil resumes its breakout

Brent could recover $111.97 even if indices hold their rebound. That would restore the energy-cost pressure without immediately cancelling the equity recovery.

Invalidation: Brent below $111.50 and WTI below $99.00.

The Money Man View

The coordinated failed-break signal is the main development. Euro Stoxx 50, DAX and Nasdaq futures all reclaimed levels broken during the previous hour, while VIX and oil moved lower. That reduces the probability of an immediate continuation leg.

The rebound still needs confirmation. European indices remain below their previous closes, Nasdaq futures are still down more than 1.6%, and Bitcoin has not recovered $82,000. This is best treated as intraday stabilisation rather than a completed trend reversal.

For daily-timeframe traders, the US cash open and European closes will matter more than the midday rebound. For intraday traders, retests of Euro Stoxx 6,100–6,117, Nasdaq 29,500 and Brent $111.97 can show whether the failed breaks persist. Position size should allow for another reversal because volatility remains elevated.
