At a glance

  • The Ethereum Foundation said on 6 November that AllCoreDevs will delay the Glamsterdam hard-fork process and not fork the Hoodi testnet until EIP-8037/EIP-8038 compatibility issues are resolved.
  • The notice describes preventive testnet work, not a current Ethereum-mainnet exploit, chain halt or confirmed loss of user assets.
  • Coinbase ETH-USD spot was $2,233.64 at 16:56:34 UTC; the unfinished UTC candle ranged from $2,205.74 to $2,247.39.
  • A daily close above $2,247.39 would favour recovery towards $2,271.64 and $2,304.62; a close below $2,202.27 would expose the $2,170.03 completed-session reference.

Ethereum Delays Glamsterdam Hoodi Fork: ETH $2,202–$2,247 Plan

বাংলা সংস্করণ পড়ুন

Ethereum developers have paused the next Glamsterdam testnet step after compatibility testing found that some projects rely on assumptions that two proposed gas-accounting changes would break. The decision is important for developers and investors, but it needs precise framing: this is preventive work before a Hoodi testnet fork, not evidence that Ethereum mainnet has been exploited or stopped.

At the same time, ETH is consolidating near $2,234 after Thursday's steep decline. There is no verified evidence that the protocol notice caused the price move, so the engineering update and the trading plan are analysed separately.

What the Ethereum Foundation confirmed

In a 6 November 2026 post, the Ethereum Foundation said ChainSecurity had found several projects that could be vulnerable after Glamsterdam because they rely on invariants that would be changed by EIP-8037 and EIP-8038.

The Foundation said AllCoreDevs had decided to delay the hard-fork process and not fork the Hoodi testnet until the issues are resolved. It asked contract developers and auditors to check whether their projects rely on eight identified invariants and to report affected systems. It also said work on the later Hegota upgrade continues in parallel.

The wording matters. The post does not announce a current mainnet exploit, a chain halt, a theft or a loss of user assets. It describes compatibility risks discovered during testing and a decision to delay activation while the specifications and affected applications are reviewed.

What EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 change

EIP-8037 proposes higher and separately metered costs for creating Ethereum state. Its stated goals are to control database growth as block capacity increases and to remove scaling bottlenecks. It introduces separate state-gas and execution-gas accounting for relevant operations.

EIP-8038 updates the gas charged for accessing Ethereum state. Together, the changes alter assumptions that some smart contracts, deployment systems or off-chain services may make about gas remaining, operation costs and execution behaviour.

That does not mean the proposals are inherently unsafe. It means a network-wide change can expose applications that depend on behaviour the protocol no longer guarantees. Testnets and audits exist to find exactly this type of issue before mainnet activation.

Economic transmission channels

Smart-contract projects

Affected teams may need to audit contracts, deployment factories, account-abstraction flows and off-chain gas estimation. The direct cost is engineering time, audit expense and possible release delays. A project that assumes a specific gas invariant without testing may face failed transactions or unexpected behaviour after activation.

Infrastructure and wallets

Wallets, RPC providers, bundlers and simulation services may need updated gas models. Incorrect estimates could create failed transactions or poor user experience, but the Foundation notice does not say that current mainnet wallets or RPC services are failing.

Upgrade schedule and market confidence

The delay increases uncertainty around the next testnet milestone. However, delaying a fork after discovering compatibility risk can reduce the probability of a more damaging activation problem. Traders should distinguish schedule slippage from protocol failure.

The next useful evidence will be a revised Hoodi schedule, specification changes, audit results and an AllCoreDevs decision—not an unverified social-media date.

ETH/USD price and candle status

Coinbase ETH-USD spot traded at $2,233.64 at 16:56:34 UTC on 6 November 2026. The bid was $2,233.58 and the ask $2,233.59. Yahoo's ETH-USD feed showed the same price and timestamp.

The current Coinbase UTC candle remained open. At retrieval it had opened at $2,234.64 and traded between $2,205.74 and $2,247.39. These high and low values are provisional until the UTC day closes.

The completed 5 November candle closed at $2,234.61, down 7.75% from the completed 4 November close of $2,422.27. Friday's narrow range so far shows compression after the sell-off, not yet a confirmed reversal.

Daily-timeframe trading plan

Bullish scenario

The first constructive condition is a daily close above $2,247.39, Friday's unfinished high at the snapshot. That would show buyers can close above the immediate compression range.

The next reference is $2,271.64, the 3 November close. If ETH reclaims that level and holds it on a retest, the recovery can challenge $2,304.62–$2,314.92, the 3 and 2 November highs.

Bullish invalidation: a break above $2,247.39 that closes back below it, followed by a daily close under $2,202.27, would invalidate the immediate recovery setup.

Bearish scenario

The first bearish condition is a daily close below $2,202.27, the completed 5 November low. That would confirm acceptance beneath both Friday's provisional low and Thursday's support test.

The next completed-session reference is $2,170.03, the 30 October low. It is a chart reference, not a guaranteed floor. A break below it without a prompt reclaim would leave the daily structure vulnerable to further price discovery.

Bearish invalidation: a breakdown below $2,202.27 that recovers and closes above $2,247.39 would invalidate the immediate continuation case.

Neutral scenario

A close inside $2,202.27–$2,247.39 keeps ETH in compression. Waiting for a completed daily close may be preferable to trading the middle of the range, particularly after a large liquidation-driven session. Spot holders and leveraged derivatives traders face different risk; the latter also need to account for funding, liquidation and weekend liquidity.

The Money Man View

Analysis horizon: the next one to three daily sessions for price, and the next AllCoreDevs checkpoints for the protocol. Our base case is that Glamsterdam remains in remediation and review while ETH trades a short-term decision range. The protocol delay is not automatically bearish: it adds schedule uncertainty but also demonstrates that testing caught a compatibility problem before the Hoodi fork.

The constructive price alternative requires a close above $2,247.39 and then acceptance above $2,271.64. The adverse alternative is a close below $2,202.27, exposing $2,170.03. The protocol view would be invalidated by an official notice materially changing the scope—for example, evidence of an active mainnet issue rather than a prospective testnet compatibility risk.

What to monitor next

  • Ethereum Foundation and AllCoreDevs updates on the Hoodi fork schedule;
  • changes to EIP-8037 or EIP-8038 after audit findings;
  • developer disclosures identifying affected applications and remediation;
  • evidence distinguishing failed test assumptions from current mainnet incidents;
  • a completed ETH/USD daily close outside $2,202.27–$2,247.39; and
  • exchange liquidity, funding and liquidation data from verifiable providers.
